Schlumberger Water Services has carried out extensive predictive and management work on geochemical and ARD issues in a variety of geologic, physical and climatic environments. We design geochemical sampling and testing programs to obtain the necessary data to conduct predictive modelling of water quality conditions in waste rock dumps, tailing facilities, leach pads, open pits and underground mines. We have conducted over 20 predictive studies of pit lake water quality as part of environmental and closure projects for mines. We have also designed and implemented highly successful pit lake closure projects. Schlumberger Water Services utilizes geochemical modelling routines that are coupled with surface water and groundwater flow models to produce reliable predictions of water quality and ARD potential. In addition, we evaluate mitigation measures for ARD including implementation of physical and geochemical controls, active treatment and passive wetland bioreactor systems. Services that are provided include:
- Design and implementation of geochemical sampling and analysis programs
- Water quality modelling for waste dumps, leach pads and tailing facilities
- Predictive pit lake water quality studies
- Water quality management and mitigation design for waste dumps, leach pads and tailing facilities
- Modelling and mitigation plans for underground mines with significant ARD material
- Design of active and passive treatment systems to protect water quality
