WMC is recognised as a leader in the application of numerical modelling techniques. Our range of expertise in hydrogeology, hydrology, unsaturated flow, hydrodynamics, contaminant transport, GIS and data management places us in a unique position to customise models for specific requirements.
WMC has no financial interest in a particular modelling code, which enables us to choose the most appropriate code for a particular application. We ensure that our modelling staff remain at the forefront of groundwater modelling through close links with research organisations, and by promoting technical development within the group.
WMC has a practical approach to numerical modelling, which aims to balance the model detail with the required precision of the results in order to achieve an appropriate and meaningful solution. Rigorous quality assurance is applied at all stages from model conceptualisation and code selection through to reporting and archiving.
Our knowledge and experience of modelling have been gained through a large number of projects, involving the simulation of varied and often complex situations. Examples of model applications undertaken by WMC include:
- Groundwater flow and resource evaluation
- Unsaturated flow and heap leach dynamics
- Particle tracking, contaminant transport and radionuclide dispersion
- Pumping test analysis and optimisation of abstraction rates
- Mine dewatering and pit-slope depressurisation
- Groundwater protection zone delineation
- Brine reserve estimation
- Saline intrusion
- Hydraulic and hydrodynamic modelling
